As we all know seeing the fitness results we want is not 100% dependent on exercise. What we fuel our bodies with is a very large part of the equation if you want to see the effects of your sweat sessions. Every morning when we wake up we have a completely clean slate. We have a full day of diet choices ahead of us and the first one we have to make is breakfast. Here are some tips to make your breakfast choices “six pack friendly”:

·         Step 1: Choose a Lean Protein: One of the best breakfast choices available are eggs. Whether it is an egg white omlette, scrambled eggs or over easy, this is a great lean protein source that is low in calories and high in nutrients. Other great choices are a protein powder mixed into a protein shake and Turkey Bacon.

·         Step 2: Always choose Complex Carbs: Oatmeal, wheat bran and 100% whole grains are examples of complex carbs. These types will keep you fuller for longer and have lots of healthy nutrients and fiber.

·         Step 3: Choose fresh low sugar fruits: Fruits like apples, berries, oranges and grapefruit are fruits that are less likely to spike your blood sugar and have a detoxifying effect on your body. Fruits higher in sugar like bananas, grapes and cherries may have positive health benefits but if your goal is weight loss it is best to avoid these types.

·         Step 4: Drink Wisely: Always rehydrate with a large glass of water after an 8 hour sleep. If Coffee is your drink of choice, be smart about the additions. Coffee itself is not unhealthy; it is the cream and sugar added. It may take a week for your taste buds to adjust, but try to limit the cream and sugar put into it. Choose Stevia over regular sugar (it is a natural sugar found in plants). Try to brew your own coffee instead of buying. A good quality coffee will taste better with less in it. Organic is always best.

·         Step 4: Spice it up: If your meal tastes bland, adding Pepper, Turmeric or Hot Chili Flakes will give it a kick with no calories! Turmeric helps with brain function and Chili Flakes boost metabolism as well. For a sweeter boost, sprinkle cinnamon or vanilla extract (just a pinch) to Oatmeal. Cinnamon is full of disease fighting antioxidants and will lower the sugar spike in the foods it is paired with.

These steps are certain to help you get closer to fitting into that little black dress. By starting your day off with a healthy meal, you are more likely to continue with those positive decisions as the day goes on. Remember, your food is your fuel. Feed it correctly and it will respond likewise!

Balance and equilibrium are what we strive to find in our busy lives. Between work, family, friends, health and trying to keep our sanity, the only way to survive without pulling our hair out is through balance. Many of us find this difficult because there are just too many things to juggle. But I will let you in on a secret that will hopefully help with this issue. Your mind and state of being will create balance, only if you let it. Through calming your thoughts, thinking things through, and coming to the realization that you are not super woman, balance may come more naturally than you think.

In the world of yoga, balance requires focus. Like balancing on one leg during Tree pose or using core stability during Boat. I proudly give most of the credit of balance in my life to yoga and what it has done for me mentally. With all the honking, deadlines, appointments, and emails, I look forward to that hour after work that is dedicated to me and the beauty of silence. It is the best gift anyone can give themselves.

Balance is also at the very core of Via Privé Activewear. Our symbol — a modified Bengali Om — depicts an open, resting heart, which represents love and happiness, while its sideways resting position symbolizes peace and serenity, bringing to life the perfect balance.  We know that women who make fitness a part of their everyday lives are happier, more relaxed, and maintain greater equilibrium. Take time for yourself and see how balance will positively affect your everyday life.

As always, please feel free to contact me at andrea@viaprive.com with any questions or comments :)
